Scott Welsh
Director and Head Coach
Mr. Scott Welsh first came to the University of Maryland and the Gymkana Troupe as a student in 1991. Welsh coached the Gymkana Summer Camp, Gymkana Saturday Classes, and also coached for various area gymnastic clubs while a student. As a Gymkana team member, he held the position of Vice President, Design Committee Chair and won the David A. Field Best Trouper Award as well as the George F. Kramer Four and Five-Year Leadership Awards. Upon graduating from the Department of Kinesiology in 1996, Mr. Welsh became an Assistant Coach for the Gymkana Troupe.
In August of 2000, Scott Welsh was appointed Head Coach and Assistant Director of the Gymkana Troupe. When Dr. Joseph Murray retired in the summer of 2001, Mr. Welsh was appointed Director and Head Coach of the Gymkana Troupe, Gymkana Summer Gymnastics Camp, and Gymkana Saturday Gymnastic Program. Mr. Welsh has served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Maryland Women's Gymnastic Team in 2003. In addition to his roles with Gymkana, Mr. Welsh is also the gymnastic facility coordinator for the University of Maryland, an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology in the School of Public Health, and the tumbling coach of the National Champion University of Maryland Competitive Cheer Squad.
Coach Welsh is currently supporting the team of 15 troupe members who are competing on America's Got Talent.
